
Cheese Sauce and Salmon Weaning Recipe
Successful weaning can be achieved if you introduce a variety of interesting and healthy weaning foods to your baby. The wider the range of choice, the better your baby will be able to develop good eating habits. There are several weaning recipes available that you can choose to use for your baby. This cheese sauce and salmon weaning recipe is a good example of a nutritious diet for your 6 month old.
Ingredients:
- 1 Salmon fillet
- 1 Small onion
- 1 Cup whole milk
- 1 tbsp grated mature cheddar cheese
- A dollop of butter
- 2 tsp flour
- A pinch of grated nutmeg
- A sprig of parsley finely chopped
Procedure:
In a sauce pan put in the fish fillet and pour in the milk. Add the chopped parsley and the grated nutmeg and allow to simmer for 20 minutes or until tender. In the meantime, peel and chop the onion finely. When the fish is done, remove from pan allow to cool for a few minutes before you flake it. Check to see that there are no bones left on the fish.
Take another sauce pan and melt a dollop of butter adding the onion when the butter begins to bubble. Sauté the onion until translucent and add the parsley and flour to it, stirring all the time. Remove from pan and gently add the milk left over from the poached fish a little at a time, stirring vigorously. When the flour and milk are well-blended and there are no lumps, put back on the gas and simmer for a few minutes until the sauce thicken.
Remove from the gas and add the grated cheddar cheese and stir till nicely blended. Mix the sauce into the fish flakes and fold in well. Now in a blender, add this fish mixture and run till the fish and sauce are well-blended and form a smooth consistency like a pâté. Use the amount that you want to feed the baby and store the rest in the refrigerator to be used later.
